The Importance of A Professional Maternity Session
From time to time, I’ll have a mom decide she is not comfortable being in front of the camera for maternity portraits. I realize that our bodies go through so many changes from morning sickness to weight gain to acne and everything in between that it can make us not feel like ourselves, but your body is doing something so amazing, it’s creating and nourishing a beautiful baby.
As a mother myself, I know all too well how long these 9 months can feel. For some, it’s an eternity and we are all ready for that little human being to be out of our bodies and into the world, while there are others that love all the aspects of pregnancy and all that it has to offer. I will put it out there, that the latter was not me. By the time I hit 32 weeks, I not only was counting down until I could hold my sweet baby, but I was ready to have my body back. Thirty-two to 36 weeks is about the time I recommend maternity pictures be taken. This timeframe is on the cusp of that time where you really start to become uncomfortable. I really do not want you to feel uncomfortable during your maternity session because that is all you will remember when looking at yourself on your wall. I want you to know how special you are, how your body was able to work so hard to create this little person and to feel like the beautiful goddess you are no matter the changes you have endured during pregnancy. In order to make sure you feel your absolute best, I provide hair and makeup services, gowns, and make sure to photograph you in a way that is most flattering.
I will say, I am beyond thankful, that for both of my pregnancies I decided to go through with my maternity pictures regardless of the changes I endured throughout my pregnancy. Soon, being pregnant will be a distant memory and it will feel surreal that you even had a baby inside of you and your belly grew to accommodate such a beautiful baby. This is the reason, I strongly recommend that you take this opportunity to document this moment in your life. As long as it feels now, it really is such a brief moment and experience. Having these portraits are something I will forever cherish because it reminds me of the changes my body made to accommodate my child. Now, looking back at these pictures, it is something that puts a smile on my face every time I look at it. Please don’t lose this opportunity to capture this moment right now. In 20+ years, you will be glad that you fought your inner voice and booked a maternity session.
